About the Artist: Rebecca Perez Stodolny

These drawings were inspired by the section of the film Encanto where Mirabel sings a song called ''The Family Madrigal.'' The animator explored multiple ideas to determine how Mirabel's dress, expressions, posing and performance would be expressed as she dances and sings. These ideas had to incorporate Mirabel's emotional state as well, as her physical movements were later implemented into the production of the film. As an animator, Perez Stodolny collaborates with the director to create the final animated performance of the characters on screen.

Rebecca Perez Stodolny first joined Disney Animation Studios to work on Meet the Robinsons and Bolt. After that she worked at multiple studios, including Pixar Animation Studios, before returning to Walt Disney Animation in 2020 as an animator on Raya and the Last Dragon. In addition to her work on the award-winning Encanto, Perez Stodolny was also a part of Familia, a group of Walt Disney Animation Studios employees who served as a cultural resource on the film.

Raised in Miami, Florida, Perez Stodolny found an early interest in creating memorable character performances through animation. She attanded a magnet program for Computer Animation at South Miami senior High School and went on to graduate with an MFA in Computer Animation from Ringling College of Art and Design. Today she spends time as a voulunteer mentor at Rise Up Animation, working to uplift and engage upcoming talent in the animation field. She states that her favorite part of working on a film is "creating authentic performances that contribute to stories which are inclusive, diverse and uplifting.''
